BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The Bacolod City government launched a food project called “Sari-Sari Store on Wheels” in Barangay Taculing today, with its first mobile store partner called “Chinggayan”, a press release from the Bacolod City PIO said.

There will be six more mobile stores to be launched in various barangays tomorrow.

There will be scheduled trips in designated barangays.

This project aims to address the limited access of people to essential food and other supplies, as Bacolod has been placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) from March 30 to April 14.

Leading the launch were Food Security Committee chair Atty. Maphilindo Polvora, who is also the head of the City Assessor’s Office, Liga ng Mga Barangay president and Councilor Lady Ges Pallen, who is also the barangay captain of Taculing, LEIPO (Local Economic and Investment Promotions Officer) -designate Jonah Javier, and Kagawad Rodolfo Toledo.

The “Sari-Sari Store on Wheels” project is in partnership with the Liga ng mga Barangay.

At the same time, the city government welcomes partnership with businessmen who would like to operate the same mobile stores.

Interested business owners must secure health clearance. Other initial requirements include letter of intent and picture of a truck to be used as a mobile store.

Applicants should submit duly accomplished forms to the Investment and Promotions Office located at the Bacolod Business Development and Promotions Center. Contact BBDPC at 4608409.

PURPOSE

Polvora said the main purpose of these mobile stores is to give access to local residents, especially the poor households, to buy their needed food and goods supplies, during this quarantine period.

Polvora said the vehicle will sell essential goods and grocery items.The goods are intended for sale to local residents at a specific time and pre-designated areas to bring the basic necessities closer to the residents of a certain barangay.

Any barangay resident who has a Home Quarantine Pass (HQP) is allowed to buy at the mobile store, provided that strict implementation of social distancing shall be observed and to be monitored and assisted by barangay officials of designated barangay where the rolling store is scheduled to visit.
