Province buys food ahead of enhanced community quarantine

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Negros Island, Philippines – Capitol has started to buy foodstuff days ahead of an Enhanced Community Quarantine that goes in effect Monday in the province of at least 2.5 million people.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz told DNX they have started to buy rice, canned goods, and other essential items for the 14-day ECQ that starts 30 March.

Provincial borders will be shut down starting on that day, movement will be restricted, and air, land and sea travel will be regulated in an effort to halt the spread of the disease in the country that has claimed 33 lives so far as of yesterday’s health department update.

The province shares borders with the Oriental side that has more than a million people.

Two positive cases have been reported in the island, one, a town councilor, died in the Oriental while one, a 56-year-old man is still being treated in Bacolod.
